Knee pain is such a common complaint and having knee replacements are definately on the rise. ALthough the knee joint is a complex joint I beleive we do not use the knee the way it was designed to be used.
The knee is a hinge joint and therefore should be used as a hinge joint. The major problem is we use it as a weight bearing joint and then to add to the problem is we pivot around the knee joint so you have a compression and pivoting action which as you propably can gather accelerates the wear and tear processes in the knee.
The hip joint is where all the weight should be taken and also has large muscles such as your glutes to help take the load. The main cause of this is that we have been told to use our KNEES to pick things up and keep the back straight which causes us to hinge and weight bear in the knees instead of hinging in our hips when we bend.
