Practicing martial arts is very hard on my knees, so I prefer to use knee supports when I'm doing a lot of lower-body action (kicking, jumping, shuffling, etc.). However, I know that knee braces and supports can make you very reliant on those supports, and you end up with instable, slightly weakened knees.

My question is, should martial artists with knee problems use braces, or just focus on strengthening their leg muscles? Could the braces help to prevent injuries, or will they be harmful in the long run?
