My mother is 82 and has severe deterioration of the cartilage in both knees and osteoarthritis. On x-ray, her knees appear as bone on bone. She is experiencing severe chronic pain which limits her mobility and interupts her sleep. Her doctor said she needed knee replacements, but due to other health concerns and her age that was out of the question. He gave her a cortisone injection in both knees and she had some relief for about 4 days and then she could hardly walk again. She has been given Tylenol 3 for pain and Celebrex, but neither gives her any relief. I am desperate to find something to help her. Do you have any suggestions? We have also experimented with magnetic therapy. What do you think about them and what about physical therapy?
